16 year old domestic aid dies after falling into swimming pool

The funeral of 16-year-old domestic aid who was suspected to have died after falling into the swimming pool at the residence of a relative of a ruling party politician was held today at Mokka estate in Maskeliya. 

For the last six months, the victim- Ramani was working at the residence of a ruling party politician's relative in Gampaha. The affected family was told that the girl died on August 19 after she had fallen into the swimming pool in the house. 

After the judicial medical examinations, the body was handed over to the family. The funeral was held today at her native tea estate. The relatives and families residing in the estate urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and find the truth of what happened to the child. 

The victim was raised with her the family of her uncle after her father left her mother. 

Last year another 16-year-old domestic aid Jude Kumar Ishalini who was working at the residence of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen found dead. Police arrested many suspects including the dealer who facilitated the child labour trade and the case is still pending in the Courts. (Pix by G. Kishanthan)
