The Colombo tea auctions held this week showed a good general demand with the auction offerings increasing marginally totalling 5.1 million kg.
The Asia Siyaka report states that the Ex-Estate offerings totalled 0.73 M/kg vis-à-vis 0.65 M/kg on offer the previous week. Quality of teas on offer was mostly similar to last week. There was good general demand though the buoyancy in the market was not maintained across all categories of tea.
High and Mid Grown CTC teas were firm and Rs. 20 per kg dearer, on average, particularly for the High Grown brighter liquoring sorts. Low Growns gained Rs. 20 per kg all round.
Low Growns comprised 2.1 M/Kgs in the Leafy/Semi Leafy and Tippy catalogues. There was good demand.
