Fisher folk at Mannar told the times online that rare sunfish was caught by them. They said that the fish was caught to their nets yesterday at the laythuda area.
They said that the odd looking fish which had few fins and small mouth was identified as a sunfish which could weigh around 55 kilos.
The laythuda area which is near Mannar Bay is an area which rich marine life, as around 104 corral species, 147 sea plants, deferent fish species as well as sea turtles are found there.
The fishermen said that they notified marine expert’s regarding their rare catch. The experts said that the sunfish dwells in deep sea at depth of 200 to 600 meters and normally swims a 25 kilometer distance.You can share this post!
