The islandwide lockdown will continue until June 7 with relaxing restrictions on May 25, 31 and June 4, Army Commander Gen Shavendra Silva said.
No private vehicles will be allowed on the roads during the lock down except for those on essential services.
The decision to continue with the lock down was taken at a meeting presided over by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa
Accordingly on the days the lockdown will be relaxed only grocery shops, pharmacies, vegetable, fish , beef and bakery shops can be opened.
The relaxing of the travel restrictions will be effective between 4.00 a.m. and 11.00 p.m. on the three days - May 25, May 31 and June 4.
During the period taxi services will not be allowed to operate.
