The Southern Province has recorded its highest ever number of COVID-19 patients over a 24-hour period.
A total of 609 COVID patients were recorded in the province during the 24-hours ending at 9am today (3). This is the highest number of patients ever recorded in the province since the start of the pandemic.
Chief Coordinating Officer of the Southern Province COVID Information Centre Chamara Mahagamage said 572 of the patients were detected from the community while just 33 were identified from hospitals.
Galle District recorded the highest number of new cases, with 288. This was followed by Matara District with 168. Hambantota District recorded 116 cases.
The latest additions have pushed the total number of COVID patients identified from the Southern Province to 27, 853. Galle District has recorded 15, 271 of those patients while 8989 patients have been detected from the Matara District. Hambantota District has recorded 3593 patients.
