Three persons have been arrested over the death of Puttalam Urban Council Chairman Abdul Baiz (52) reportedly have been killed after being thrown off an open cab on Sunday night, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The UC chairman was returning after a bath in the Ralmaduwa tank in Eluwankulama last evening (23).
The three persons were found to be intoxicated.
They had claimed that the UC Chairman fell off the open vehicle, but there were doubts over the incident, police sources said.
They had admitted Mr Baiz to hospital and disappeared, but were arrested later.
Mr Baiz was an influential political figure in the area and a couple of years back had issues with an underworld gang in the area.
