Azath Salley acquitted and released
Former Western Province Governor Azath Salley was acquitted and released by the Colombo High Court today (2).
Salley was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department and detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act over a controversial statement he made at a press conference earlier this year.
High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja stating that the plaintiffs failed to produce sufficient evidence to prove that the statement of the accused would cause a threat to ethnic-religious harmony, ordered the accused to be acquitted and released.
