Former State Minister and SLPP Puttalam district MP Sanath Nishantha and Gampaha district MP Milan Jayathilake were remanded till May 25 by Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.
The two MPs were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the violent attacks on peaceful protestors.
Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando and Suresh Priyasad (alias Dan Priyasad) and two others were also arrested today morning by the CID. Seethawakapura Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Jayantha Rohana and Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Manjula Prasanna are the other two who were arrested.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament today that parties should remove the party membership of those involved in the attacks on Galle Face and Temple Trees protestors and those linked to mob violence.
