Four million Pfizer vaccines for students; schools less than 200 children to re-open
Four million Pfizer vaccines due to arrive in Sri Lanka will be allocated for school children, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said.
The move comes as part of the plans to vaccinate school children and get the schools reopened soon.
The technical committee appointed to decide on reopening of schools have recommended the reopening of schools less than 200 children.
The vaccination for children over 12 years of age is planned to be carried out in three phases with the first of the programme due to commence end of this month.
Under the first phase Children with chronic diseases will be vaccinated while the next phase will include students in G.C.E (O/L) and A/L classes. The final stage will cover children above 12 yers.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka today received another consignment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
A batch of 73,710 doses of the Pfizer vaccine purchased by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Sri Lanka in the recent week have received around 400,000 Pfizer vaccines.
