The G.C.E (Ordinary Level) got off to a start today amidst difficulties faced by some of the students to reach the examination centres in time.
Despite an announcement by the Education Ministry that they have requested filling stations to provide fuel for vehicles carrying students and examination staff, some of the filling stations had run out of supplies to provide the facility.
However, few of the sheds responding to the request issued fuel to them on a priority basis.
Volunteers also stepped in to provide transport facilities to many students across the country. Some of the electrical car owners provided free transport services while persons having adequate fuel supplies too stepped In to help.
Some of the parents and school van owners did multiple trips to transport students.
Meanwhile, there was a positive response to widespread appeals for persons not to have protests and block roads starting from today.
Among those who made public appeals was the FlashBack music band leader Roshan Fernando who called the public not to disrupt those heading for the examination. Some of the trade union leaders to appealed to their members to refrain from protests.
