Unions and associations affiliated with the health sector held protests and walks today over a number of demands including increasing their fuel allowance. Public Health Inspectors are among the health staff on a two-day strike.
“PHI’s are getting a meagre fuel allowance of just over Rs.1000 per month, PHI’s are refusing to go on field visits,” said President of the PHI’s Union Upul Rohana said.
He said if the government fails to solve their issues, nursing, paramedical and other supplementary unions too will join the strike starting from next week.
