Thousands of metric tons of hoarded sugar that were seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority recently are released to the retail market via Sathosa and supermarket chains.
Our photographer Indika Handuwala captured these images of containers being loaded with seized white sugar stocks at R.G. Brothers warehouse in Mabima.
“Majority of the stocks are taken by Sathosa and Cooperatives while supermarket chains are also taking stocks with the approval of Trade Ministry,” said an official.
He said daily about 500 metric tons of seized sugar are taken from the warehouse to be distributed to retail Sathosa outlets and supermarkets.
