Inflation increased to 70.2 percent in August

News

Sri Lanka’s Year on Year inflation has increased to 70.2 percent in August compared to July’s 66.2 percent, the Census and Statistics Department said.

The 70.2% inflation consists of 40.4 percent food inflation and non food inflation of 29.8 percent.

The Department said last month’s food inflation has increased by 84.6 percent and non-food inflation increased by 57.1 percent.

The price increases in fresh fish, biscuits, eggs, fresh fruits, infant milk powder, chicken and dried fish, coconut oil, bread, wheat flour have contributed to the increase in food inflation while increases in electricity, kerosene oil, materials for maintenance, clothing, medical and pharmaceuticals have contributed to the non-food inflation.
