The Labour Department has decided to include 20 more job categories in the prohibited list for those under 16.
The Director General of the department, Prabath Chandrakeerthi said that they have already drafted a cabinet proposal to add these job categories to the prohibited list. He said currently 51 job categories are already prohibited for children below the age of 16.
He explained that they have also prohibited using children for dangerous acts in films, tele-dramas as well as reality shows.
Mr Chandarakirthi said that they have also planned to increase the fine for employing children in prohibited jobs to Rs 100,000. He added that any person employing children below the age of 16 for prohibited jobs could be sentenced for one year in prison.
