The Secretary-General of Parliament has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission in writing that Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe has resigned from his post.
He was recommended by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States and Mexico.
Earlier former Minister Samarasinghe told parliament on Tuesday that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has asked him to take office as the new Sri Lankan envoy to the U.S. and Mexico.
He said he would be leaving for America on November 29.
