New agreement to purchase crude oil

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has signed a new agreement in order to purchase crude oil from a Swiss- Singapore company in order to supply uninterrupted Furness oil to Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)

CPC Chairman, Sumith Edirisuriya told the Sunday Times that they have placed orders. He elaborated that according to the agreement six ships of 90,000 metric tons of crude oil each are scheduled to reach the ports.

“The ships would be reaching Colombo by January 26 and would continue the process for the period of six months,” he said.

He elaborated that they are ready to supply Furness oil to the CEB without interruption if they are capable of paying for the purchases made.
