No signs of oil spill or debris from sunken X-Press Pearl: SLPA

The Sri Lankan Ports Authority (SLPA) confirmed that there are no signs of oil spill or debris from the partially sunken ship, X-Press Pearl, a feeder vessel operated by Singapore based operator X-Press Feeders, as yesterday evening.

The aft portion of the ship remains on the seabed at a depth of about 21 meters, and the forward section remains afloat and is reported as stable, SLPA said in a statement.

Furthermore, officials from SLPA, Marine Environment Protection Authority ( MEPA) And Merchant Shipping Secretariat inspected the situation of the fire-stricken ship today, 9 June 2021, afternoon as well.

However, local authorities together with Salvos, experts from Oil Spill Response, and Indian Coast Guard continue to remain in the area to respond if there is any emergency.
