The programme to distribute organic fertilizer to farmers in preparation for the upcoming 'Maha' Season will commence tomorrow (13). The decision was taken during a discussion held on Monday chaired by Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
It was decided at the meeting to commence the distribution of fertilizer from the Ampara district, while fertilizer will also be distributed in other districts coinciding with that, the Agriculture Ministry said in a press release.
It was also decided to prioritise the distribution of organic fertilizer first to the districts of Ampara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Hambantota and Puttalam; which are the country's main paddy cultivating districts.
Solid organic fertilizer for farmers, except those who have already obtained monetary assistance from the State to develop their own organic fertilizer, will be made available through the area Agrarian Development offices. It was also decided to keep organic liquid fertilizer and organic nitrogen stored at Agrarian Development offices so that farmers have access to them.
