Former State Minister and Leader of Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan has reportedly fled Sri Lanka, an official from the party said.
Last month Mr Chandrakanthan was appointed as the State Minister of Rural Road Development by former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He is reported to have fled by boat to Malaysia.
Ealier, he was jailed for four years from 2015 to 2019 over the assassination of former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian Joesph Pararajasingham after the Good Governance government came into power. Later he was granted bail after the new government took office.
