Fisher folks of Wankalai in Mannar have informed the Mannar Police of plastic debris collecting on Wankalai beach in the past few days. Accordingly police after informing the Navy and the Coast Conservation Department have inspected the particular strip of beach, and have sent the beached debris for investigation.
However, the fishermen of the area had informed that debris from the ill-fated X-Press Pearl tanker is floating towards Mannar and that the authorities should pay serious attention as the situation could get worse in the coming days.
