Police are warning of a rise in the theft of three-wheelers after the Avrudu season.
Three such three-wheeler thefts were reported from Colombo City during the past two days, Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana stated. The thefts have been reported from the Fort, Borella and Modera police divisions.
In the recent past, police had arrested a suspect with 13 alleged stolen three-wheelers in his possession, DIG Rohana stated, adding that however, the theft of three-wheelers has picked up yet again.
He urged three-wheeler owners to take safeguards to prevent such thefts when leaving their vehicles unattended after parking. Meanwhile, both uniformed police and those in civvies have been deployed to arrest those carrying out such thefts.
He also urged those who purchase three-wheelers to be mindful about the vehicles they are purchasing and ensure that all documents are in order as they may be unwittingly purchasing a stolen vehicle.
