A Sub Inspector of Police who murdered a woman, packed her body into a travelling bag and left it behind at Dam Street in Colombo has taken his life close to his residence in Badalkumbara, Monaragala today (3) morning, DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The body was recovered in a forest area adjoining his house around 6.30 a.m. as the police was carrying out a search operation for the suspect.
He was attached to the Buttala police station.
The 30-year-old woman who was murdered was from Kuruwita, Ratnapura and had told her family members she was visiting Shripada and left the house.
Both, the Police officer and the woman had checked into the guest house on February 28 and the SI was seen leaving on March 1 with the bag that contained the body.
He had murdered the woman inside the guest house room and cleaned up the place.
After leaving the body behind at Dam Street, he had called the guest house owner and threatened the owner not to disclose any information about his stay at the location.
The police officer was married and a father of two, including an 18-year-old son.
