Trade unions representing teachers and principals will meet today (13) to discuss their next move following yesterday’s meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Co-Secretary to the Teacher-Principal Trade Union Alliance, Mahinda Jayasinghe told TimesOnline that all unions affiliated will meet today for discussions.
“We are not sure whether our final decision will be taken today, but we will have a series of discussions. Only a few unions met the Prime Minister, therefore we need to meet the other unions as well to get their view,” he said.
He said following discussions, the alliance will announce their decision whether to continue to stay away from online teaching or to end their three-month trade union action and re-commence online teaching.
The meeting will mainly focus on whether the unions will accept the government’s offer to resolve their salary anomaly in several installments. Unions previously rejected it and demanded it to be paid in one installment.
