A vaccination centre was closed down earlier than schedule in Kottukachchiiya, Anamaduwa due to a poor turnout of youth to get themselves vaccinated today (23).
According to Dr Ravi Abeyratne, Anamaduwa Medical officer, preparations were made to vaccinate about 2000 persons, but only 200 had turned up by noon prompting early closure of the centre. The staff had to wait for several hours for youth to turn up at the centre.
Arrangements had been made to provide the Sinophrm vaccine.
A staff of 35 persons including Air Force personnel and Public Health Inspectors had been deployed at the centre at the National School Kochchikattuwa to vaccinate persons between 20 to 30 years.
PHI Saman Abeyratne said that the youth should get themselves vaccinated irrespective of the type of vaccine.
