President Maithripala Sirisena has vehemently condemned the adopition and co-sponsorship of the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka.
Mr. Sirisena yesterday (Mar 27) said the resolution was adopted without his knowledge or awareness of the Foreign Ministry or the Foreign Secretary.
Speaking during an event in Meegahatenna, Kalutara, the President vowed that he will not implement any recommendations listed in the UNHRC report that would violate the constitution and the sovereignity of the country.
Further, he pointed out that the selection of the initial delegation to represent Sri Lanka at the UNHRC sessions, had been done without his knowledge. On the same lines the President noted that he intervened and made changes to the delegation when he was made aware of it on February 25.
President Sirisena proceeded to say that he had advised Foreign Minister Thilak Marapana to deliver a statement that would be in favour of Sri Lanka.
