A fast unto death campaign commenced by relatives of disappeared persons in Vavuniya entered for third consecutive day amid heavy rains today. At least fourteen mothers whose children were abducted or made disappeared participating in the hunger strike.
The protesters alleged that the current government also like successive ones is not willing to find the whereabouts of their loved ones who were made to disappear or handed over to military during the final phases of war in 2009.
Health condition of some protesters were in poor state as they are staying in a tent near Vavuniya post office along A9 road day and night amid continuing rains. A medical team from Vavuniya hospital visited them last evening to check their medical condition.
