The ministerial cabinet approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Rs 300 million investment with India, to improve infrastructure of estate schools.
The cabinet of ministers granted approval to this project yesterday (Jun 04) after studying a proposal submitted by Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
Estate schools in the Central, Uva, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Southern Provinces which tutor more than 200,000 students lack proper infrastructure, Minister Kariyawasam had pointed out.
Accordingly, the Indian funding will be used to refurbish the buildings of these schools, and also to improve classroom and sanitary facilities, the Education Minister's proposal stated
