Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest organised by the Inter-University Students Federation currently underway.
According to reports the demonstration which made its way towards the parliamentary complex was organised against the anti-terrorism act. The road around the parliamentary complex has been temporarily closed owing to the protest.
Traffic congestion in Colombo as IUSF protest gets underway
Traffic congestion has been reported from Ward Place towards the Borella, Rajagiriy area, with reports of a student protest heading towards Parliament.
The protest was begun by the students of the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF). The protestors began protesting in front of the University Grants Commission.
It is reported that the students hope to continue their protest in front of Parliament.
