Unmanned aircraft, drones banned from Sri Lankan airspace - CAA

All drones and unmanned aircraft will be banned within  Sri Lankan airspaces with effect from today (Apr 25), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

This decision was made after taking into consideration the prevailing security situation of the country, the CAA noted in a press release.

Accordingly, all unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned aircraft systems or those which fit the description of ‘drones’ will be banned from operating withing the airspace.

The ban also means that previous approvals issued by the CAA in order to operate such unmanned aircraft also stands suspended.
